For The Love Of The Game

The Cliffs presents a collection of courses like no other

This Is Why You Play.

The seven nationally-acclaimed courses of The Cliffs Golf Membership by renowned designers including Tom Fazio, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player are known far and wide — yet they’re remarkably close to one another. In fact, if you’re feeling ambitious, you could choose to play 36 holes in a day. One round on a mountaintop. Another lakeside. Discover the award-winning attributes of each course through the span of a week, and be ready to start all over again.

At The Cliffs, this is not a game. It’s a passion. We simply love sharing the experience and the camaraderie. Cliffs Golf is above all else social, and our golf staff will make you feel right at home regardless of your level of play.

The Cliffs provides a modern experience for lady golfers, with no tee time restrictions still found at many private clubs. In 2016, the Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards hosted LPGA Tour Player Austin Ernst’s annual Pro-am charity tournament, featuring players like Michelle Wie, Morgan Pressel and Marina Alex.

Nowhere else in America offers this combination of year-round play, this diversity of experiences or this caliber of membership. No one else deserves to enjoy it more than you.

Seven Courses Take You To A New Level Of Play.

From mountaintop to lakeside to valley, these courses all belong to you, because you belong here.

The Cliffs at Glassy

South Carolina’s only mountaintop golf course, The Cliffs at Glassy course sits 3,000 feet above sea level, with majestic, panoramic 50-mile views. This Tom Jackson design is truly breathtaking. In fact, it’s been “ranked fourth most scenic in the nation” by Golf Digest, only behind Cypress Point, Pebble Beach and Augusta National. The signature hole at No. 13 says it all.

Most designers would have found taming this area atop Glassy Mountain daunting, but Jackson drew from his training under Robert Trent Jones and George Cobb to create a fun and challenging masterpiece that requires precise drives to navigate the bentgrass tees, fairways and greens through elevation changes, slopes and ravines.

The Cliffs at Walnut Cove

Opened in 2005 with a PGA Tour-sanctioned event, the Jack Nicklaus Signature Design course at Walnut Cove was recognized by the PGA Tour as the only championship golf course to debut in tournament-ready condition.  It’s been wowing golfers of all skill levels ever since. Nicklaus worked closely with The Cliffs to enhance the natural environment and create courses both challenging and enjoyable for players of all levels. The front nine holes wind across open fields of former farmlands, playing across soft ridges and featuring bunkers that create multiple risk-and-reward opportunities. The back nine plays into native woodland vegetation, crisscrossing over and around mountain streams. The course features five sets of tees, offering any player a perfect fit for a memorable round.

Walnut Cove is also site of the member-favorite, Walnut Cup, a yearly tournament open to men and women of all ages and abilities. The tradition includes “Trash Talk Week” parties leading up to the competition, and a year’s worth of bragging rights for the winning teams.

The Cliffs at Keowee Springs

A challenging and rewarding experience for golfers of all ages and skill levels, the Keowee Springs golf course is one of Tom Fazio’s most scenic and uniquely designed courses, and was described by as “one of the most versatile designs in Fazio’s award-winning repertoire.” Completed in 2008, it incorporates three approachable loops of six holes and a set of family tees, designed to play six or 12 holes when time is tight (such as when you’ve got a date with some water skis later in the day). These more approachable courses are favorites for our groups of golf beginners at The Cliffs, who call themselves the Sassy Sixers (for ladies) and the Mac Daddies (for men). But PGA Tour Players also come here to improve their game as Keowee Springs features one of the Top 50 Golf Practice Facilities in America.

The course, ranked among the “Best New Courses” by Golfweek and “Best in State” by Golf Digest, combines Bermuda grass fairways and rough with Tif-Eagle tee areas and 007 Bentgrass greens across a gentle, rolling mountainside layout, with long-range views of Lake Keowee. Though it’s designed to accommodate families and beginning players, experienced golfers should be prepared: the back tees are every bit the championship golf experience.
